FAQs

What Should My Budget Be?

This is the most common question. We provide services in two primary areas: interior design & interior decor. While we will not be able to provide a more fine-tuned estimation until we start working together, here are some general guidelines to follow:

INTERIOR DESIGN: Interior design is the art & science understanding behaviour to create functional spaces within a building. This usually revolves around planning & design work in structural and construction elements (e.g. major renovations, working on a new build, a kitchen or bathroom re-model). Your costs can range any where between the $150 - $300 / sq-ft range for renovations (calculated with a minimum of 500 sq-ft - kitchen and bathroom remodels have a wide variance depending on level of construction required), and the $300 - $500 / sq-ft range for a new build. This is inclusive of design and construction costs (not inclusive of furnishings).

INTERIOR DECOR: Interior decor is the furnishing and adorning of a space with decorative elements to create a specific aesthetic. This usually involves furniture selection and space planning, and some soft surface updates like wallpaper, paint and drapery. If you have a blank space with white walls and no furniture, the costs to bring it from 0 to 100 (fully decorated and styled) will usually be $30,000 per main area (e.g. a living room, dining room, master bedroom...Etc.). This is inclusive of design fees and all furniture/hard costs to decorate the space. This is a baseline for a mix of quality/custom and cost efficient pieces. The costs can greatly decrease or increase outside of that range depending on the quality level desired for each piece and the number of existing pieces we are able to re-purpose.

How Long Does the Design Process Take?

Our design process typically takes 4-5 weeks per main phase. Under normal circumstances, furniture typically takes 8-16 weeks to produce and the average home renovation typically is in the 8-14 week range (upgrading kitchen and minor cosmetics). The furniture and construction industries are however facing unprecedented challenges, so production timelines can be as much as double the average.

Will I be Able to Test Each Piece of Furniture Before Ordering It?

Most clients want to be able to test out furniture pieces that will be highly used (e.g. sofas, arm chairs, mattresses). We try our best to ensure that we source from vendors that have a local show room to test for this very reason. Depending on the overall budget and desired design aesthetic, there are certain pieces that need to be custom ordered that are not available to test. Our team has vetted every line to make sure we have an understanding of how each piece will feel with our quality manufacturer partners.

What Type of Projects Do You Take On?

With our tried and tested design process, we have the capabilities to be able to help with projects ranging from a single room to an entire new build. However, we all have budget and timeline parameters that we have to work within. What we truly excel in is bringing an entire space from 0-100. Because of this, we normally suggest for our clients to prioritize what areas are the most important (e.g. the main floor, the master bedroom, a kitchen renovation) to be smart with resources and time. You will get much more value in working with a designer to bring 3 rooms to 100% rather than all of your rooms to 60%.

Do I Need to Know My Style Before Working Together?

Absolutely not! It’s our job to help walk you through a fun, creative and collaborative process to discover what your design perspective is together. Despite what you may think, everybody has a design perspective (in that they know what they like and dislike when they see it). With our methodical design process, we’ll establish the big picture design direction together, and take care of the minute details to fully execute on your project.

How Do I Pick the Right Designer for Me?

Working with a designer is a commitment. Projects can span any where from 3 months to 3 years! We will get to know you extremely well and see you at your best and also your worst. You want to definitely make sure you are working with someone that you have full confidence in and also trust on a professional and personal level. The most important aspect to us is transparency, so make sure you have a full understanding of how your designer works, and how they bill for their time and also products.

What Happens if Mistakes Are Made?

There will be challenges to overcome and mistakes made on virtually every project. It’s just the nature of the work. There are so many uncontrollable variables and a variety of trades and suppliers that will touch your project in some way. What’s important to focus on is aligning yourself with a team that is creative, organized and pro-active with providing solutions. Ultimately there is a solution to every problem and a reasonable and respectful way to course correct.
