MODERN ROMANCE

Modern Romantic Parisian Influence

This gorgeous family home is a blend of modern romance and also influenced by Parisian styled decor. What makes this home truly special is the mix of traditional romantic elements with modern metals and finishes.

I was so excited to walk into this home and see a space that already had a very distinct narrative and reflect the homeowner’s style. The blue velvet couch, rich yellow ottoman, and the fluid abstract art were already present. She previously worked with a great designer (Maddie Moss) on the renovation design of the home and acquiring furniture for the living room, family room, and master bedroom. She wanted help finishing the space and adding a softer level of polish. As I always tend to do in my approach, I decided to go completely with the aesthetic that was already in front of us. I played up the romantic colors by introducing hits of blush, pink and neutrals. The first major order of business was to add drapes on both sides of the main formal living room.

The client wanted a sense of privacy but did not want the room to seem dark or hidden. We found the perfect window coverings and used a timeless ripple fold starting an inch and a half above the molding. We chose a black metal rod to add a sense of tradition and Parisian styled decor. This completely changed the feel of the room and added an ethereal light feeling throughout the house.

Retaining a Sense of Family and Accessibility

It was important for the client to have a sense of balance between elegance and approachability. With a high-energy 2-year-old, it was important to have a space that was both beautiful to look at but also approachable. In order to keep a sense of lightness and elegance throughout the rest of the house, we chose to display a simple set of 8 travel photos in the family room. This frames the couch perfectly and adds a modern elegance with the black and white photos and modern white matte.

A set of 3 candles and medium-sized plant balances off the entertainment unit below the tv.

In the master bedroom, one of the design challenges was to create a sense of scale and balance. With a master bedroom so large, it’s sometimes difficult to fill the room in a way that is both purposeful and visually interesting. We added a new modern Parisian inspired chandelier to set the tone for the room. Next, we created a serene sitting area by the main window. With such beautiful millwork, I didn’t want to take away from it by adding any weight or clutter. We brought up two formal dining room end chairs and added an end table. This created the perfect little space for blissful morning coffee.

Two traditional end chairs flank both ends of the window. This creates a perfect sense of balance and provides a functional utility to the bedroom.
